The church is supposed to be the earthly embodiment of the glory of God and nothing is more important than that in their view.
Well the Catholic Church obviously feels this way since it covered up horrible crimes against children just to protect itself. If it cared about the welfare of children more, it would have exposed the priests, not hidden them.
