Was the Virgin Mary based on Isis?

I live in Spain and overheard someone saying that at a party.

He was saying that Spain was the first country to officially start worshipping Mary, who was based on Isis, in order to make sense of the pagan religion of the time. But Isis?!? Wasnt she Egyptian? Surely that influence couldnt have travelled that far.

I didnt feel confident enough to approach the guy and ask more.

My question:

1.Was the Virgin Mary based on Isis?

2. What has that got to do with Spain?

3. Was Spain really the first country to officially accept the Virgin Mary?

4. Is this guy talking out of his ****?
