Perhaps this lioness has stumbled upon a mothers cubs. What would she typically do?
It depends on whether or not the mother is part of the same pride as the mother which gave birth to those cubs.
In which case, the lioness would probably actually take care of those cubs and lead them to safety - perhaps even allowing them to suckle.
It is very rare for rival prides to attack cubs, due to the fact that their territories are so vast and prides are so powerful that they rarely manage to even get that far into rival territory.
A male lion, on the other hand, will attack and kill cubs sired by other males on sight.
